Another successful project week on sustainable food is coming to an end at our long-standing partner school, Andersen Grundschule. Class 5a explored the topic with a great deal of curiosity and energy: How does a tomato actually grow? How does our bread get to the supermarket? Do mangoes grow in Germany? And which vegetables can I plant on my balcony? In the end, they created great comics, a song and a stop-motion video, which you can watch here.

In the second week of July, the Grundschule am Buntzelberg was all about Grünauer Forst and a very special little animal: The heath fritillary. Through games, quizzes and a trip to Grünauer Forst, the children learnt a lot about biodiversity and its importance for our survival. Under this year's motto ‘Global change of direction - be the change yourself’, creative and inspiring contributions on the topic of sustainable development were sought from all over Germany. Our presentation of the project week on the topic of ‘Climate Change’ at Andersen Primary School in November 2023 won 4th place and was also awarded the regional prize of the state of Berlin, which was handed over to the pupils of class 6c at an award ceremony in the Rotes Rathaus on 12 July.

Our project week ‘Plastic waste - and what we can do about it’ took place at a new school this summer. The 1st to 3rd graders at Schule am Buntzelberg had a lot of fun exploring the problems and possibilities surrounding the diverse material plastic. Another exciting project week took place at Andersen Primary School in Berlin Wedding. Under the topic of "Sustainable food - in Germany and around the world", class 4b learnt all kinds of things about food production and what this has to do with the climate. Last but not least, they were also able to plant their own bed, get to know peers from Uganda and create their own comics, songs and videos.

This year's winners of the Berlin Mitte Environmental Award were announced on 12 June - and we were part of it! With our project weeks ‘Climate Change in Germany and around the World’ in February and March 2024, classes 5a and 5c of Andersen Primary School achieved first place.

Two project weeks in a row took place this spring at our long-standing partner school, Andersen Primary School. Once again, a variety of creative comics, songs and stop-motion videos were produced. You can find a report and all the results here.

For five days, the pupils at Andersen Primary School were able to get to know an often underestimated animal - the grasshopper. Not only did they get to know the animal up close in the classroom and go on an excursion to the neighbourhood in search of it, they also learned all about its importance and its role in a functioning ecosystem and how we can protect it. Another successful project week at Andersen Primary School has come to an end. For five days, the pupils of 6c learnt lots of exciting things about climate and climate change, met children from Kampala in Uganda via video and produced their own creative learning media. Guests from Uganda, a dance workshop and an excursion to the vegetable garden - our first project week on the topic of "Sustainable Food" was particularly varied! The creative comics, stop-motion videos and songs of the Andersen Primary pupils show how much they have learned during the week.

At Wilhelm von Humboldt Community School in Berlin, our project week on the topic of "Understanding and Preserving Biodiversity" went into the second round. An excursion to the learning biotope at Plötzensee was an essential part of the project. Moreover they produced their own song and creative comics.

Our project week with the third grade of the Phönix Primary School on the topic of biodiversity and species protection is coming to an end! The children learned a lot about biodiversity and how it can be protected. Here you can listen to the song they have created.

No less than three project weeks took place at the primary school under the chestnut with classes 5a, 5b and 5c. Many exciting learning games and an online exchange with children from Tanzania and Uganda ensured plenty of exciting moments! The children of Andersen Primary School had an exciting week: with games, quizzes and educational videos they learned a lot about plastic waste, waste separation and consumption. During the week, they created the game "Müll Surfer", a comic and a song, which you can see here.

Our new project topic - SDG 13 Climate Action - entered its first round! At Wilhelm von Humboldt Community School in Prenzlauer Berg, 20 children spent a week learning a lot of exciting things about this highly relevant issue. They then transformed what they had learned into games, comics and a self-composed rap song.

What is the state of children's rights worldwide, in Tanzania and in Germany in 2022? In this project week, the children of Andersen Primary School embarked on a search for answers, exchanged views with children from Tanzania and interviewed people on the street. Resources, water, plastic waste and consumption - how is all of this connected and what does it have to do with our environment? This is what the pupils of the Wilhelm von Humboldt Community School explored for a whole week. You can see what they found out in their self-developed games, comics, stories and stop-motion videos!

We need it for drinking, cooking, washing and flushing the toilet - during this exciting project week, the fifth grade children at Andersen Primary School learned how essential water is to our lives. Of course, we also looked at the situation in other parts of the world and then developed our own digital learning media. Here you can find a detailed report and all the results!

On 18 September 2021 World Clean Up Day takes place - and the pupils of Andersen Primary School were part of it! Together they collected rubbish in their neighbourhood and were thus actively involved in the campaign against environmental pollution. In June, the children had already participated in a project week on the topic of plastic waste and consumption. The report on the project week with the results can be found here.

Three project weeks took place in winter 2019/2020 at different primary schools in Berlin. What does the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child consist of, why is it important, and what do children's living conditions look like in other parts of the world? Answers to these exciting questions were found by the children in an exchange with children from Tanzania and Uganda, for example.

The wolf is in school! The game "Wolf live" created during the project week at Ringelnatz Primary School was awarded as one of the three best projects on wolves in the classroom. The pupils of class 5a won a 1,500 euro voucher for the NABU shop - including a visit by a wolf expert at their school!
